Priorities for Oral Health Research Guest Lecture
Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, India, 14 October 2024
As part of the training and capacity building component of the CORE project, a guest lecture was organised for students and staff at the Faculty of Dentistry, JMI on 14th October 2024. The lecture was titled “Priorities for Oral Health Research” and was delivered by guest speaker Professor Richard Watt of UCL (University College London), co-lead of the CORE Project.
Professor Watt shed light on the core components of the NIHR Global Health Project and its areas of implementation. He particularly focused on the growing recognition of the importance of oral health in India and abroad. He touched on the World Health Organization (WHO) agenda concerning oral health, particularly citing the Resolution on Oral Health (WHA74.5, 2021), the Global Strategy on Oral Health (WHA75(11), 2022) and the Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023–2030 (WHA76(9), 2023). He emphasised the need for a people–centred, public health oriented, integrated approach in universal health coverage to improve the oral health status of people living in low and middle-income countries. The lecture was a success and was much appreciated by the audience. The event was coordinated by the Professor Abhishek Mehta (JMI), India lead of the project.
